q094 Rubin Chirurg was born c1847 in Russia. He was married to q095 Rebecca. They emigrated with their family from Russia (Latvia) to England, before 1900. In the 1901 census, they were living at 4 New Court Synagoge, Spitalfields, London. They immigrated to Pittsburgh, USA. They had 4 sons, q101 Max Chirurg, was born in Russia (Latvia) in 1881; he changed his name to Shering; he was a cabinet maker, q102 Davis Chirurg, was born in Russia (Latvia) in 1888; he changed his name to Shering and died in 1966 in Florida, q096 Alexander Judah Chirurg and q105 Jacob Jacobson, and 2 daughters, q103 Rachel (Ruth) Chirurg and q104 Nechame (Anna) Chirurg. In 1910 they were living in Pittsburgh, and in 1920 in Cleveland. Rebecca died in Cleveland in 1925 and Rubin died in Cleveland in 1930.
q096 Alexander Judah Chirurg was a son of Rubin and Rebecca Chirurg. He was was born in 1879 in Russia (Latvia). He emigrated with his family to England, before 1900. In the 1901 census, he was living at 4 New Court Synagoge, Spitalfields, London. He was a paper box maker. In September 1903 (1903 quarter 3, Mile End, folio 1c page 838) he married q097 Sarah Lazarus. (The entry quotes him as Alick Scrook). He emigrated to USA arriving at Philadelphia on December 25, 1905 on the Merion, sailing from Liverpool on December 19 1905. The ship's manifest entry reads,
'Elik Chirurg, age 26, male, married, a box maker, able to read and write, nationality Russian, Hebrew, headed for Pittsburgh, held a ticket for destination, last reidence London for 6 years, paid for ticket himself, had $9, headed for Rubin Chirurg, 9 Vine street, Pittsburgh, PA. Noted that Rubin had been there 1 year and was a rabbi. Also noted that he was travelling alone.'
Sarah Musekatt (neé Chirurg)q097 Sarah Chirurg (neé Lazarus) was born in Russia (Latvia). In September 1903 (1903 quarter 3, Mile End, folio 1c page 838) she married q096 Alexander Judah Chirurg. (The entry quotes him as Alick Scrook). After her son q01 Harold (Harry John Jack) Cherug was born, Alexander Judah emigrated to USA arriving at Philadelphia on December 25, 1905 on the Merion, sailing from Liverpool on December 19 1905. She then returned to England where her daughter q106 Julia Althasen was born. In 1925 (1925 quarter 1, Whitechapel, folio 1c page 321) she married Harris Musekatt. Her surname was qoted as Churik.
The family name was sometimes Lazarus, or Lazarovitch, or Lesser, or Lessorovitch, as English or American officials coped with Russian names and language.
She had one brother, q098 Samuel, a cobbler, who had two daughters, a sister q099 Annie and another sister. There was also a cousin Becky.

Harold (Harry John Jack) Cherugq001 Harold (Harry John Jack) Cherug (Serook, Cherook) was born on 29 July 1904 (1904 quarter 3, Mile End, folio 1c page 407) in London. He was son of Sarah and Alexander Judah Cherug (Chirurg). He married q002 Muriel Dorothy Martin on the 12th. March 1929 (1929 quarter 1, Hackney, folio 1b page 696). But because she was perceived to be a Gentile, the Jewish side of the family cut off all connections with the couple for religious reasons. Harry had 4 sons and 4 daughters.

Muriel Dorothy Chering (née Martin)q002 Muriel Dorothy Chering (née Martin) was born in Tottenham, London on 4 January 1909 (1909 1st quarter, Hackney, folio 1b page 370). Her father, q034 Arthur John Martin, born in 1879 (1879 quarter 4, Edmonton, folio 3a page 272) was the Chief Gardener at Somerset House (Records Office at the time). He was married in 1898 (1898 quarter 2, Edmonton, folio 3a page 753) to q123 Edith Florence Poole born in 1879 (1879 quarter 3, Islington, folio 1b page 400). Muriel had 7 sisters and 2 brothers: q124 Phyllis Edith, born in 1898 (1898 quarter 4, Hackney, folio 1b page 407), q126 Nell, q127 Thora I, born in 1913 (1913 quarter 4, Hackney, folio 1b page 645), q129 Patricia, q130 Ivy Violet born in 1906 (1906 quarter 3, Hackney, folio 1b page 373), q134 Ruby Lilian born in 1902 (1902 quarter 4, Hackney, folio 1b page 415) and died in 1908 (1908 quarter 1, Bethnal G., folio 1c page 129), q135 Florence Gertrude, q128 Ernest A J born in 1919 (1919 quarter 4, Hackney, folio 1b page 742) and q125 Dudley Hubert, born in 1900 (1900 quarter 3, Hackney, folio 1b page 423). In 1901 the Martin family was living at 2 Woodland Road, Stoke Newington. In 1911 they were living at 51 Neville Road, Stoke Newington. She married q001 Harry John Chering on 12th. March 1929 (1929 quarter 1, Hackney, folio 1b page 696). She had 4 sons and 4 daughters. She died in 1992 (1992 October, Epping Forest, folio 9 page 2640 1092).

Rose Beatyq063 Rose Nunn was born in 1909 (1909 quarter 3, Pancras, folio 1b page 115) and in 1929 (1929 quarter 3, Pancras, folio 1b page 21) was married to q64 Richard Beaty and they lived in Effingham Rd, Harringay. Rose was mother to Iris and was a perfect grandmother in all ways and died in her fifties of breast cancer and complications. She is still sadly missed.
Richard Beatyq064 Richard Beaty was born in 1904 (1904 quarter 1, Edmonton, folio 3a page 528) and in 1929 (1929 quarter 3, Pancras, folio 1b page 21) was married to q63 Rose Nunn and they lived in Effingham Rd, Harringay. He was father to Iris. He worked on the railways, and later re-married and moved to Letchworth where after a few more years with his new family, died. He is still sadly missed.
q003 Norma D. Chering was the first born of Harry and Muriel Chering. She was born in 1929 (1929 quarter 2, Holborn, folio 1b page 739). Sadly she died in 1930 (1930 quarter 2, St. Geo H Sq, folio 1a page 489) being just a few weeks old.
Raymond Alexander Cheringq004 Raymond Alexander Chering was the first son of Harry and Muriel Chering. He was born in 1930 (1930 quarter 4, Finsbury, folio 1b page 821) and died in 1997 (1997 December, Hendon, folio 2351B page B43C 012 1297). He was married to q005 Iris. They had 7 sons, Stephen, Graham (died 1996), Christopher, Andrew, Derek, Phillip (died) and Gordon (died). Raymond was extensively involved with the London City Mission, giving up most of his time for the the church, so too was Iris. Both were confirmed Christians, and worked tirelessly, giving to others. Raymond wrote many Christian songs and plays, with some of the songs being published. Raymond also helped out in the Sunday School sessions that gave benefit to many children. So hats off to both Raymond and Iris "for giving time for a good cause; many children will have had a good start under their care." When he died, his ashes were scattered to the wind outside the mission gardens, and his soul rests with our Lord.

Iris Chering (née Beaty)q005 Iris Joyce Chering (née Beaty) was daughter of Rose and Richard Beaty. She was born on 18 March 1933 (1933 quarter 2, Pancras, folio 1b page 77). She was married to q004 Raymond Alexander Chering. They had 7 sons, Stephen, Graham (died 1996), Christopher, Andrew, Derek, Phillip (died) and Gordon (died). Iris, when her family allowed, worked extensively with the London City Mission. She and Raymond were confirmed Christians, and worked tirelessly, giving to others. She also helped out in the Sunday School sessions that gave benefit to many children. So hats off to both Raymond and Iris "for giving time for a good cause; many children will have had a good start under their care." She died in 2004 (2004 March, Haringey, folio 2331B page B60A 273 304).

Graham Cheringq007 Graham Chering was born on 18 April 1961 (1961 quarter 2, Edmonton, folio 5e page 359). He was son of Iris and Raymond Alexander Chering. He was married to q065 Nikki A Fraser in 1992 (1992 august, Enfield, folio 12 page 637 892). Sadly he died in 1996 (1996 July, Hillingdon, folio 2361C page C32B 151 796).
